Corpus Christi 2026 | La Festa Grossa
In 2026, the Corpus Christi festivities in Valencia—known as "La Festa Grossa"—will run from Thursday, 4 June to Sunday, 7 June. This is one of the city's oldest traditions, blending deep religious solemnity with ancient, playful folklore.
Thursday, 4 June: The Holy Day
- 09:00 AM – Bell Ringing: Manual ringing at the Micalet Tower (Cathedral) officially opens the festival.
- 10:00 AM – Floral Creations: Artists begin laying aromatic herbs and intricate "flower carpets" in Calle de las Avellanas.
- 12:00 PM – Tribunal of Waters: The 1,000-year-old court meets at the Apostles' Gate (Plaza de la Virgen).
- 08:00 PM – Mass & Proclamation: Solemn service at the Church of the Patriarch followed by the official opening speech.
- 10:00 PM – Night Singing: "Albaes" folk singers move through the streets of the Old Town.
Friday, 5 June: The Proclamation & Night Transfer
The "Traslado de las Rocas" (Transfer of the Floats) is the main event on Friday night. The goal of that night's horse-drawn procession is to move all 11 of these ancient carriages
- 08:00 PM – The Eucharist and Proclamation:
- Location: Church of the Patriarch (Carrer de la Nau, 1).
- This is the formal religious service and official speech that kicks off the public festivities for the weekend.
- 08:00 PM – Transfer of the Rocas (The First Leg):
- Location: Alameditas de Serranos.
- While the Mass is happening, the 11 massive "Rocas" (floats) are moved from their initial stationing point at the Alameditas de Serranos toward the Plaza de la Virgen.
- 11:30 PM – Nit d'Albaes (The Night of Singing):
- Location: Starts at Plaza del Dramaturgo Fausto Hernández Casajuana and ends at the Archbishop's Palace.
- Traditional Valencian folk singers move through the streets making stops to perform at the entrance of the Casa de las Rocas and in front of the floats now displayed in the squar08:00 PM – Delivery of the Pomells: Organisers deliver traditional bouquets to the Town Hall (Plaza del Ayuntamiento).
- 11:30 PM – The Night Transfer: 11 massive medieval wooden floats (Rocas) are pulled by horses from their museum to the Plaza de la Virgen by torchlight.
Saturday, 6 June: The Invitation
- 12:00 PM – Invitation Parade: Traditional characters dance through the Old Town to invite the public to the finale.
- 06:00 PM – The Mysteries: Short biblical plays performed on stages in the Plaza de la Virgen.
- 12:00 AM – Night of the Festival: A musical parade through the Barrio del Carmen to judge the best-decorated balconies.
Sunday, 7 June: The Grand Finale
- 10:30 AM – Pontifical Mass: A grand, formal service inside the Valencia Cathedral.
- 12:00 PM – The Water Fight (La Poalà): During the morning parade, residents along Calle de los Caballeros and Calle de la Bolsería dump buckets of water from their balconies onto the participants and the crowd. It is a high-energy, soaking-wet tradition—bring a waterproof bag for your phone!
- 02:00 PM – The Mascletà: A thunderous rhythmic firework display in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
- 07:00 PM – Solemn General Procession: The main event featuring giants, hundreds of biblical characters, and the 600kg silver "Custodia" monument.
- The Rain of Petals: As the procession passes through the narrow streets of the Old Town, thousands of rose petals are showered from balconies, covering the streets and the floats in flowers.

- Where to Stand: For the best photos, head to Plaza de la Virgen early Sunday morning. To stay dry during the water fight, stay clear of the narrow balconies on Calle de los Caballeros.
