Festival «Balls al Carrer» in Valencia
About this event
The Fallas commissions bring folklore to the streets in the 28th edition of the “Balls al Carrer” Festival in Valencia.
The string of traditional dances through the streets and squares of Valencia is back!
These traditional dances, performed to the rhythm of the dolçaina and tabalet —the Valencian names for the dulzaina (a type of oboe) and the small drum— have a ritual character associated with festive days and are a true display of rhythm and coordination.
Each group parades in pairs dressed in regional costumes, adapting to the shape of the space where they dance: elongated if it’s a street, or circular if it’s a square.
Once positioned, they follow the beat of the tabal, and when the dolçaina begins to play, they move and shift to the melody.
The performances take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with up to seven falla commissions performing each day.
“Balls al Carrer” is a perfect opportunity to experience Valencian traditional attire and the music of the region’s typical instruments up close.
