10 Unusual Things to Do in Valencia | A Guide to Hidden Gems.

Discover 10 hidden gems in Valencia! From the tiny Cat House to secret Baroque art. Get prices, addresses, and find all your ValenciaEvents.es here.

1. The Cat House (Casa de los Gatos)

This is a miniature three-storey villa built into a garden wall. It features a tiny "Spanish" tiled roof, a little balcony, and even a "fountain" for the local strays. It was created by craftsman Alfonso Yuste Navarro in 2003 as a tribute to the "four cats" (the legendary few that remained after the reconquest).

  • Price: Free (Outdoor street installation)
  • Where it is: Look at knee-height on the blue wall of a private garden.
  • Address: Carrer del Museu, 9, 46003 València

2. La Estrecha (The Narrowest House)

At just 107cm wide, this was once a standalone family home (one room per floor, connected by a tiny spiral staircase). While the interior has been merged with the tapas bar next door, the original iron-railed balconies and the emerald-green façade remain perfectly preserved.

  • Price: Free to view the exterior; cost of a drink if you enter the bar.
  • Where it is: Right in the corner of Plaza Lope de Vega, next to "La Estrecha" bar.
  • Address: Plaza de Lope de Vega, 6, 46001 València

3. L'Iber: Soldiers of Lead Museum

Tucked inside the Palacio de Malferit, this is the largest collection of historical miniatures in the world. It’s not just "toys"—it’s a massive historical archive with over 95,000 pieces including the Battle of Almansa and a miniature 1960s fashion show.

  • Price: €8 (General admission); €5 (Reduced for students/pensioners)
  • Where it is: Look for the heavy wooden doors of the Gothic palace on Calle Caballeros.
  • Address: Carrer de los Caballeros, 20, 46001 València

4. San Nicolás (The "Sistine Chapel" of Spain)

The exterior is a plain, crumbling wall, but inside is 2,000 square metres of vibrant Baroque frescoes. It was restored in 2016 and is arguably the most beautiful ceiling in Europe outside of Rome.

  • Price: €15 (Includes audio guide); €10 (Reduced)
  • Where it is: Accessible through a narrow alleyway off Calle Caballeros.
  • Address: Carrer de los Caballeros, 35, 46001 València

5. L'Almoina Archaeological Centre

This is a subterranean time capsule. You walk over a glass ceiling (which is actually a pool of water at street level) to see the original Roman foundations, the 2nd-century BC thermal baths, and the Visigothic baptistery.

  • Price: €2 (General); Free on Sundays and Public Holidays.
  • Where it is: The entrance is a modern glass building behind the Cathedral.
  • Address: Plaça de l'Almoina, s/n, 46003 València

6. The Bat of Miracle Street

A giant, somewhat creepy stone bat clings to the corner of an 18th-century palace. It commemorates the bat that supposedly woke King James I during a night raid by the Moors. Most tourists walk right under it without looking up.

  • Price: Free (Outdoor sculpture)
  • Where it is: On the corner where Calle del Milagro meets Calle del Mar.
  • Address: Carrer del Miracle, 1, 46003 València

7. Pelayo Trinquet (The Hidden Stadium)

You enter through a standard-looking bar and walk down a hallway to find a massive, 150-year-old indoor handball court. It is the spiritual home of Pilota Valenciana. Even if there isn't a game, the restaurant inside allows you to eat on the court’s "benches."

  • Price: Free to enter the gastrobar; Match tickets typically €12+
  • Where it is: Near the North Train Station, behind a discreet "Pelayo" sign.
  • Address: Carrer de Pelayo, 2, 46007 València

8. The Water Court (Tribunal de las Aguas)

The oldest judicial institution in Europe. At noon every Thursday, eight farmers in black robes sit on wooden chairs to settle irrigation disputes. There are no lawyers and no written records—the judgment is final and oral. It has happened here for over 1,000 years.

  • Price: Free (Public event)
  • Where it is: At the "Apostles’ Door" on the side of the Cathedral.
  • Address: Plaça de la Mare de Déu, s/n, 46001 València

9. Dama Ibérica

A modern masterpiece by Manolo Valdés. It is a 20-metre-tall head composed entirely of 22,000 miniature replicas of itself. It’s located in a busy business district, making it feel like a strange blue sentinel standing guard over the traffic.

  • Price: Free (Public monument)
  • Where it is: In the middle of the roundabout at the end of Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas.
  • Address: Av. de les Corts Valencianes, 46015 València

10. Café Sant Jaume

This was an apothecary shop from 1839. It still retains the original marble counters, dark wood cabinets, and glass medicine jars. It is the most atmospheric place in the city to try "Agua de Valencia" (Cava, OJ, Gin, and Vodka).

  • Price: Free entry; cocktails/drinks are approximately €8-€10.
  • Where it is: On a corner in the heart of the old El Carmen district.
  • Address: Carrer dels Cavallers, 51, 46001 València
