Twenty years ago, we finally managed to record the songs we'd always wanted to write. "Orion's Belt" is an album about self-discovery and striving to be better, overcoming the fear of failure, overcoming loss, and regaining hope. It's also an album that was very difficult for us to complete. Some of us underwent significant personal changes that ended up being reflected in the album's tone and lyrics.
With our previous albums, we felt like something was missing, so we decided to go to Engine Studios in Chicago with Santi Garcia. Before leaving, we tried to compose and compile the best possible material. We even recorded the album twice, the first time in our rehearsal space, so we'd arrive in Chicago with a polished and well-rehearsed setlist. The sessions in Chicago were a success; we'd never played so in sync. Working with Santi Garcia for the first time helped us play better together. It was all very intense; two of us even ended up in a Chicago hospital (true story). On October 26, 2004, we released "Orion's Belt" through BCore and Cydonia (our own label). We launched it with a fantastic concert we organized at the legendary—and now defunct—L'Espai venue in Barcelona. That was one of the best moments in our history. Since then, we've released four more albums.
Madee is a band that has had a lot of downtime due to everyone's schedules, jobs, obligations, and personal lives, which has led us to release albums less frequently than we'd like. We recently tried to make up for this by releasing our last three albums back-to-back between 2020 and 2023. Last summer, we got together and discussed the possibility of doing something to mark the 20th anniversary of "Orion's Belt." We decided to reunite to celebrate our band's most important songs. In this new adventure, Capi, Pep, Ramón, Marc, and Adam are joined on drums by our old friend Marc Prim (Seek 'Em All, Soul Aside, Sargon).
The concert on May 30th at 16 Toneladas is also part of the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of BCore, the Barcelona-based label that released Madee's seven LPs. Six Was Nine—our booking agency—is organizing this show in Valencia.
