About this event

Valencia Events Co | IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia

The IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia is a middle-distance triathlon set in Spain’s third-largest city. The next edition is scheduled for Sunday, 19 April 2026.

  • Registration: Usually open on the Friday and Saturday before the race at Playa de la Malvarrosa.
  • Briefing: Mandatory athlete briefings are held on Friday evening in both English and Spanish.
  • Race Day: The professional field typically starts around 07:15, with age-group athletes following in a rolling start format.

The Course

The race is famous for its "sea to city" transition, moving from the Mediterranean coast to futuristic urban architecture.

  • Swim (1.9km): A single-loop swim in the calm, protected waters of the Valencia Marina and Malvarrosa Beach. Wetsuits are typically allowed as water temperatures usually hover around 16–17°C.
  • Bike (90km): A single-loop route that is relatively fast but includes a rolling section through the Sierra de la Calderona mountain range. You can expect about 600m to 700m of total elevation gain.
  • Run (21.1km): A flat, two-loop course through the Turia Gardens, a lush park created in a diverted riverbed. It is well-shaded and ends with a spectacular finish line at the City of Arts and Sciences.

Qualification & Cut-offs

  • World Champs: The race offers qualifying slots for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.
  • Time Limits: Athletes generally have 1 hour 10 minutes for the swim, a combined 5 hours 30 minutes to finish the bike, and an overall cutoff of 8 hours 30 minutes to complete the entire race.

Key Locations in Valencia

  • The Beach (Playa de la Malvarrosa): This is where the race begins with the swim. It also serves as the initial athlete village and registration hub.
  • The Marina (Marina de Valencia): This area hosts the first transition (T1), where you move from the swim to the bike.
  • Sierra de la Calderona: The bike course leaves the city limits and heads north into this mountain range for its main elevation gain before looping back.
  • Turia Gardens (Jardín del Turia): The run takes place in this 9km-long green space that runs through the centre of the city in a former riverbed.
  • City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias): This futuristic complex is the site of the second transition (T2) and the final finish line.

It is completely free to watch the IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia as a spectator. You do not need a ticket to cheer along the course or at the finish line.

Since the race starts at the beach and finishes in the city centre, here are the two main addresses you should use:

📍 Key Addresses

  • For the Swim Start & First Transition (T1)
    • Location: Playa de la Malvarrosa
    • Address: Carrer de José Ballester Gozalvo, s/n, 46011 València, Spain
    • When to be there: Arrive by 07:00 to see the pro athletes start at 07:15, followed by the age-group rolling start.

  • For the Run Course & Finish Line
    • Location: City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias)
    • Address: Avinguda del Professor López Piñero, 7, 46013 València, Spain
    • When to be there: The first pro men are expected to finish around 10:45, with athletes crossing the line throughout the afternoon.

💡 Quick Tips

  • The Best View: The Turia Gardens (Jardín del Turia) is the best place to watch the run. Because it is a two-loop course, you can see athletes pass by multiple times.
  • Tracking: Download the IRONMAN Tracker app on your phone to see exactly where your athlete is on the course in real-time.
  • Getting Around: Avoid driving. Many roads between the beach and the City of Arts and Sciences will be closed for the bike and run segments. Walking or using the metro is much easier.
