About this event

Valencia Events | What's on Valencia

The San Silvestre is Valencia's most famous "fun run" to celebrate the end of the year. This 5 km race is less about speed and more about the festive atmosphere, with thousands of participants running through the city in elaborate costumes and fancy dress.

Route Details

  • Start Line: Calle de Xàtiva (near the Estació del Nord).
  • Finish Line: Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
  • Distance: 5,000 metres (5 km).

Registration Information

  • Entry Fee: Typically around €2.00. The proceeds are traditionally donated to a local charity.
  • How to Join: Registration usually opens in early December.
    • Fun Run: You can typically sign up and collect your race bib at the sports departments of major department stores like El Corte Inglés throughout Valencia.
    • Competitive Category: For serious runners looking to start at the front, registration is usually handled through the S.D. Correcaminos offices.

How to Get There Locally

The race takes place in the heart of the city, making public transport the best option as many roads will be closed to traffic.

  • Metro: The closest stations to the start line are Xàtiva (Lines 3, 5, and 9) and Bailén (Line 7). For the finish line, Colón and Plaça de l'Ajuntament are within walking distance.
  • Bus: Expect many EMT bus routes to be diverted from the city centre starting from 7:00 PM. It is best to arrive early and walk from the outskirts of the central ring.
  • Parking: Driving is highly discouraged due to major road closures. If you must drive, use underground car parks near the Guillem de Castro area or the Ruzafa neighbourhood and walk to the start.

Tips for Participants

  • Costumes: Fancy dress is a huge part of the tradition. There are often prizes for the best group and individual costumes.
  • Arrival: Aim to be at Calle de Xàtiva by 7:15 PM to soak up the atmosphere and find your spot in the crowd.
