Corpus Christi 2026 | La Festa Grossa

In 2026, the Corpus Christi festivities in Valencia—known as "La Festa Grossa"—will run from Thursday, 4 June to Sunday, 7 June. This is one of the city's oldest traditions, blending deep religious solemnity with ancient, playful folklore.

Thursday, 4 June: The Holy Day

  • 09:00 AM – Bell Ringing: Manual ringing at the Micalet Tower (Cathedral) officially opens the festival.
  • 10:00 AM – Floral Creations: Artists begin laying aromatic herbs and intricate "flower carpets" in Calle de las Avellanas.
  • 12:00 PM – Tribunal of Waters: The 1,000-year-old court meets at the Apostles' Gate (Plaza de la Virgen).
  • 08:00 PM – Mass & Proclamation: Solemn service at the Church of the Patriarch followed by the official opening speech.
  • 10:00 PM – Night Singing: "Albaes" folk singers move through the streets of the Old Town.

Friday, 5 June: The Transfer of the Floats

  • 08:00 PM – Delivery of the Pomells: Organisers deliver traditional bouquets to the Town Hall (Plaza del Ayuntamiento).
  • 11:30 PM – The Night Transfer: 11 massive medieval wooden floats (Rocas) are pulled by horses from their museum to the Plaza de la Virgen by torchlight.

Saturday, 6 June: The Invitation

  • 12:00 PM – Invitation Parade: Traditional characters dance through the Old Town to invite the public to the finale.
  • 06:00 PM – The Mysteries: Short biblical plays performed on stages in the Plaza de la Virgen.
  • 12:00 AM – Night of the Festival: A musical parade through the Barrio del Carmen to judge the best-decorated balconies.

Sunday, 7 June: The Grand Finale

  • 10:30 AM – Pontifical Mass: A grand, formal service inside the Valencia Cathedral.
  • 12:00 PM – The Water Fight (La Poalà): During the morning parade, residents along Calle de los Caballeros and Calle de la Bolsería dump buckets of water from their balconies onto the participants and the crowd. It is a high-energy, soaking-wet tradition—bring a waterproof bag for your phone!
  • 02:00 PM – The Mascletà: A thunderous rhythmic firework display in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
  • 07:00 PM – Solemn General Procession: The main event featuring giants, hundreds of biblical characters, and the 600kg silver "Custodia" monument.
  • The Rain of Petals: As the procession passes through the narrow streets of the Old Town, thousands of rose petals are showered from balconies, covering the streets and the floats in flowers.

Quick Travel Tips:

  • The Museum: To see the floats up close without the crowds, visit Casa de las Rocas on Calle de las Rocas.
  • Where to Stand: For the best photos, head to Plaza de la Virgen early Sunday morning. To stay dry during the water fight, stay clear of the narrow balconies on Calle de los Caballeros.
