 L’Escuraeta (Traditional Ceramic Market)

L’Escuraeta is Valencia’s oldest craft market, a tradition dating back centuries to the Christian conquest. Located in the heart of the historic district at the foot of the Cathedral, the market is the city's premier spot for authentic handcrafted ceramics and traditional earthenware. Visitors will find everything from classic paella pans and terracotta cooking pots to the famous "Campanetes de la Mare de Déu"—small ceramic bells traditionally bought for children to ring during the spring festival season. This open-air market offers a unique glimpse into the city's artisanal heritage, where local potters showcase techniques passed down through generations.

Local Travel Guide

By Metro
The most convenient station is Colón (Lines 3, 5, 7, and 9). After exiting, it is an 8-minute walk through the city’s main shopping streets directly to the plaza. Alternatively, the Xàtiva station is approximately 10 minutes away on foot.

By Bus
Plaza de la Reina is a major hub for city buses. Numerous lines, including 4, 8, 11, 16, 31, 32, 70, and 71, have stops located directly in the square or just a few metres away.

Walking
Since the market is located at "Kilometre Zero" of Valencia, it is easily reachable on foot from any part of the historic centre. It is situated right next to the Valencia Cathedral and the Miguelete Tower.

By Bike
The Valenbisi bike-share system has stations throughout the centre. It is recommended to dock your bike at a station on Calle de la Paz or Plaza del Ayuntamiento to avoid the dense pedestrian crowds within the market area.

By Car
The historic centre has restricted access for private vehicles. If you must drive, the most practical option is to use the underground car park located directly beneath Plaza de la Reina.
