The Battle of Flowers (Batalla de Flores) is the spectacular grand finale of Valencia's Great July Fair (Gran Fira de València). This historic tradition involves a parade of massive, flower-adorned floats where participants and spectators engage in a "battle" using millions of carnations.
Batalla de Flores 2026
- Event Name: Battle of Flowers (Batalla de Flores)
- Date: Sunday, 26 July 2026
- Time: Starting at 20:00 (8:00 PM)
- Location: Paseo de la Alameda, Valencia
- Type: Cultural Festival / Traditional Parade
The event features around 30 to 40 elaborately decorated floats carrying the Falleras (festival representatives) in traditional costumes. The parade begins with a ceremonial lap for judging, followed by the "battle" itself, where over 1.2 million carnations are thrown between the floats and the crowd. Participants use tennis rackets and shields to deflect the floral "ammunition" while throwing flowers back.
- Tickets/Cost:
- Public Viewing: Free to watch from the sidelines of the Paseo de la Alameda.
Practical Information
- Arrive Early: It is recommended to arrive well before 20:00 to secure a good viewing spot if you do not have a reserved seat.
- The "Punxà": On the night before the battle (Saturday, 25 July), you can visit the Ciudad del Artista Fallero to watch the "punxà," where master craftsmen pin the final flowers onto the floats.
- Transport: Many central roads, particularly around the Paseo de la Alameda, will be closed to traffic. Using the Metrovalencia (Alameda station) is the most efficient way to reach the event.
Local Travel Guide
By Metro
The most efficient way to travel. Take Line 3, 5, 7, or 9 and get off at the Alameda station. The station exits lead you directly onto the middle of the boulevard where the parade happens. Alternatively, use the Aragón station (Lines 5 and 7) if you want to enter the parade route from the eastern end near the stadium.
By Bus
Several city bus lines (EMT) serve the area. Look for buses 25, 31, 70, 71, 93, 94, or 95. These drop you at various points along the boulevard or just across the bridges in the city centre. Keep in mind that on the day of the battle, buses may be diverted one block away from the riverbed due to the crowds.
Walking
If you are staying in the historic centre (near the Cathedral or Plaza del Ayuntamiento), it is a very easy 10 to 15-minute walk. Simply head toward the Turia Gardens (the dry riverbed park) and cross either the Puente de las Flores or the Puente del Real.
By Bike
The city's bike-share system, Valenbisi, has several stations nearby. However, because the street gets incredibly crowded, it is best to dock your bike at a station a few streets away, such as near the Mestalla Stadium or Plaza de Tetuán, and walk the final few minutes.
By Car
Driving is strongly discouraged as the Paseo de la Alameda is closed to traffic for the event. If you must drive, your best bet is to use a large underground car park in the city centre (like Parking Glorieta) or near the Aragón area and walk from there.
